Casa Xochiquetzal : A Home for Retired Sex workers in Mexico

Casa Xochiquetzal is a retirement home with a difference, housed in a dilapidated Spanish casona in one of Mexico City's roughest barrios. The Casa is named after the Aztec goddess of sex and love and its residents are retired sex workers.  Ostracized by society and even their own families, these women find themselves with nowhere to go at the end of their working lives. In a country with no universal health care most Mexicans rely on family members to care for them in old age, but for the city's estimated 50,000 sex workers this is rarely an option. Casa Xochiquetzal not only provides them with a roof over their heads but also much needed emotional and psychological support.
